Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account?+
No. The complete equalizer — all ten bands, the volume booster, presets, per-site
profiles, the visualizer and the diagnostics — works on install with no account at all.
A free JSKAPPS account adds a preset library and import tools; Pro adds deeper audio
processing. Nothing that changes how a tab sounds is locked behind signing up.
Why does it say a tab's audio cannot be processed?+
Some sites deliver audio under DRM (digital rights management), which is encrypted end
to end. No browser extension can process it — not this one and not any other. If an
extension appears to work on a DRM-protected site, its slider is not doing anything.
SoundShape tells you which tabs those are rather than pretending.
Will it make my browser slow?+
No. It works only on the tabs you turn it on for, the spectrum stops drawing the moment
you close the popup, and the whole extension is under 200 KB.
Does it work on Firefox and Edge?+
Yes. Edge works exactly like Chrome. Firefox works differently under the hood and will
ask for permission on the site you are using it on, at the moment you use it.
Does it send my audio anywhere?+
No. All processing happens on your device, in your browser, and nothing is recorded or
transmitted. The only thing the extension itself ever sends is a licence check to
api.jskapps.com, and only if you have connected an account. It also opens our
documentation page in a tab once, when you first install it. The privacy page lists
every moment anything leaves your browser.
What happens if my subscription ends?+
The Pro processing stops being applied — including on profiles you saved while
subscribed — and everything in Instant and Free keeps working exactly as before. You
never lose the equalizer.
Can I get my settings out?+
Yes, at any time and with no account. Export writes a JSON file with every profile
and preset, so you can always leave with what you made.
