JSK SoundShape support
Getting started
- Install SoundShape from your browser's store.
- Open a tab that is playing audio and press play.
- Click the SoundShape icon in your toolbar. It attaches to that tab immediately.
- Click a preset chip — Auto is a good first choice — or open the ten sliders.
There is no account step, no onboarding and no permission dialog. If you saw one, it
was not us.
Using JSK SoundShape
Shaping a tab
The ten sliders run from 32 Hz (deep bass) to 16 kHz (air and detail), each adjustable
by ±12 dB. Changes apply live. The preset chips set all ten at once, and Auto picks
a sensible general-purpose curve.
Use Hold to compare to hear the tab untouched while you hold the button. Your ears
adapt within about a minute, so an A/B is the only reliable way to tell whether you have
improved something or just made it louder.
Volume boost
The volume slider runs from 0% to 300%. Above 100%, a limiter keeps the peaks in check —
so a boosted tab gets louder rather than distorted. Very quiet source material may still
sound compressed at the top of the range; that is the limiter doing its job.
Per-site and per-tab profiles
When you change anything, SoundShape saves it for that site and applies it automatically
the next time you are there. Two tabs on the same site can hold different
settings — the per-tab setting wins, and is cleared when you close the tab.
Connecting an account
Settings → Account. Paste the key from your JSKAPPS dashboard and press Connect. If
a key is rejected you get a specific reason — a malformed key, a revoked key, and a key
scoped to a different product each say so. Disconnect returns you to Instant, and
everything in Instant keeps working.
Troubleshooting
Nothing happens when I move the sliders.
Check that the tab is actually playing. If the popup says Waiting for audio, it is
attached and will shape the sound the moment playback starts.
It says the tab's audio is DRM-protected.
The site encrypts its audio, so no browser extension can reach it. This is not a fault
in SoundShape, and any equalizer that appears to work on such a site is showing you a
control that does nothing.
It says the tab's audio is already being captured.
Only one extension can capture a tab at a time. Close the other audio extension or stop
the screen share that is holding it, or open the page in a new tab.
It says to open SoundShape from its toolbar button.
Chrome only allows an extension to read a tab's audio right after you invoke it from the
toolbar on that tab. Click the icon on the tab in question and it will attach.
I muted the tab and now the spectrum is flat.
That is correct — SoundShape follows your mute. The popup says This tab is muted.
Unmute the tab and you will hear the change immediately.
Nothing works on chrome:// or the extension store.
Browsers forbid every extension from touching their own internal pages. Open a normal
site.
Firefox: it asks for permission on a site.
On Firefox, SoundShape works on the page's own audio and needs access to that page. The
permission is optional, asked for at the moment you use it, never at install, and you
can decline it.
Nothing above matches.
Open the popup, expand Technical details on the message, and press Copy — that
carries the browser's own error text and makes the problem diagnosable in one reply.
Frequently asked questions
Does SoundShape work without an account?
Yes, completely. Everything that changes how audio sounds is in the free, no-account
tier.
Do you record or upload my audio?
No. Audio never leaves your device. The extension has no ability to send it anywhere.
Where are my settings stored?
Locally in your browser's extension storage. Export them at any time from Settings.
Why does the toolbar shortcut do nothing?
No keys are assigned by default, because a default would collide with something you
already use. Assign your own at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.
Will my settings survive an update?
Yes. Stored profiles are migrated automatically on read, including from older versions.
