Getting started

Install JSK Shield from the Chrome Web Store (link coming soon) and pin it to your toolbar. That’s the whole setup — JSK Shield starts blocking ads and trackers immediately, with no account and no configuration.

The first time you open it, JSK Shield offers you a choice:

Basic protection blocks ads and trackers on the network and needs no access to any website.
Full protection additionally hides the empty boxes that blocked ads can leave behind, which needs permission to read the pages you visit. You can turn this on for all sites, or per site, at any time — or never.

Using JSK Shield

See what it blocked. Click the JSK Shield toolbar button. The number is the count of requests blocked on the current page.
Understand a block. In the popup, open What we blocked, then click any request to see the exact filter rule and the list it came from.
Allow one thing. In that same view, choose Allow this on this site to let a single request through on the current site only — everything else stays blocked.
Pause on a site. Use the per-site toggle in the popup to stop blocking on the current site, or the main toggle to pause everywhere. Pausing never deletes your settings.

Troubleshooting

A page looks broken or an element is missing. Open the popup and choose Page broken?. Work through the steps in order — they are arranged so you give up the least protection that fixes the page: first allow a single request, then turn off element hiding (ads and trackers stay blocked), and only as a last resort pause the whole site.
A video or login won’t work. Try turning off element hiding for that site first (it keeps ad and tracker blocking on). If it still misbehaves, pause the site and reload.
A count of zero on a normal page. Some pages genuinely serve few blockable requests. You can confirm JSK Shield is active from the toolbar button; the main toggle shows whether blocking is on.
The toolbar button says a page isn’t a web page. JSK Shield only works on http/https pages, not on browser settings pages or the new-tab page.

Frequently asked questions

Does JSK Shield need an account?
No. All blocking is free and works with no account.

What does JSK Shield send over the network?
Nothing about you. It downloads filter-list updates the way your browser downloads its own — a signed file with no cookies, no identifiers and no query string. The scam and ransomware lists work the same way: they are matched entirely on your device, and nothing about the sites you visit is sent anywhere. If you choose to connect an optional JSKAPPS account, JSK Shield asks only whether that account’s subscription is active; it never sends a URL, a domain, or anything it blocked.

How do I remove a site I paused?
Open the Settings page from the popup; paused sites are listed there with a “Resume blocking” button.
