JSK Inkstone privacy policy

Overview

JSK Inkstone is a desktop application that generates QR Codes on your own computer. The content you encode — URLs, contact details, Wi-Fi passwords, spreadsheets — is processed locally and is never transmitted to us or to anyone else. The app runs no analytics and no telemetry while you work. It opens a page on this website in your browser at two lifecycle moments — the first time you run it, and (for the downloadable installer only) when you uninstall it — and whenever you press one of the links in the Licence & network panel that say they will. All of them are described under When the app opens a web page below, and none carries any personal data.

Information we collect

We collect no personal information through the app.

The app does not send your codes, your files, your spreadsheets or their contents anywhere. While you use it there is no usage tracking, no crash reporting and no analytics. Unless you sign in, the app creates no identifier of any kind.

If you sign in — with a free account or a Pro licence — the app checks your licence with JSKAPPS when it starts, and again when you come back to it after six hours or more, or press Check again. That request carries two things, both in headers:

  • your licence key, which tells JSKAPPS which account is asking; and
  • a random install ID, which the app generates the first time you sign in on a computer and keeps in that computer's local application-data folder. It is random — not derived from your hardware, network address, name or email — and it lets JSKAPPS count how many devices a licence key is used on. JSKAPPS stores only a one-way hash of it.

The request has no request body — there is no field in it capable of carrying your content.

When the app opens a web page

The app opens a page on this website in your browser in two situations on its own, and whenever you press a button that says it will. Every one is a one-way page view: none sends your account, email, licence key, or any code, file or content you made.

On its own — twice in the app's life:

  • The first time you run it, the app opens the getting-started guide (/apps/jsk-inkstone/docs). It happens once — not again, and not after an update.
  • When you uninstall it, a short, optional feedback page opens. This happens only if you installed the downloadable .exe; the Microsoft Store version has no uninstall page at all. The link carries three coarse values and nothing else: the app version, a rough how-long-you-had-it bucket (one of: same day, a week, a month, a quarter), and which plan you were on (instant, free or paid). No date, no account, no key.

When you ask it to. The account section of the Licence & network panel has links — See plans, Create a free account, Get your key from your JSKAPPS dashboard, and once you are connected Manage account and (on the free plan) Upgrade; its Support section links the support page and the product tour. Each opens the page it names in your browser. They carry no parameters at all: not your account, not a licence key, not a record of what you have made, and no tracking or campaign tag. Nothing happens until you press one.

How we use it

The licence key and the install ID are used for licensing only: to confirm what you are entitled to use, and how many devices a key is used on. They are not used for profiling, marketing or analytics.

Permissions and why we need them

  • File dialogs (open and save) — so you can choose which spreadsheet to read and where to write your codes. The app receives only the file you pick, in a single operation; it is not given browsing access to your disk.
  • Application data folder — to store your settings and the reissue archive on your own machine.
  • Clipboard (write only) — to copy a code or its content when you ask. The app cannot read your clipboard.
  • Network to api.jskapps.com only — the licence check. The app's interface has no network permission at all, which is enforced by the application's capability declaration and its content security policy, not merely by our code. The one request is made by the app's native code, which refuses any address but api.jskapps.com.
  • Opening our own pages in your browser — for the first-run guide and the uninstall feedback page described above. This capability is restricted to www.jskapps.com; the app cannot be used to open any other address.

Data storage and retention

Everything the app saves — settings, your brand kit, and the reissue archive of what you have exported — is written to your Windows application-data folder on your own machine. We hold none of it.

Your licence key is not kept in that folder. It is stored in Windows Credential Manager on this PC, set not to copy to your other computers, and the app never shows it again once saved. JSK Inkstone sends it only to JSKAPPS, to check your plan. Disconnecting removes it. If you sign in, the random install ID is kept there too, in the local (non-roaming) part of that folder, so that it never follows you to another computer. It stays until you delete it or uninstall the app.

Sharing and third parties

We do not sell or share your data, because we do not have it. The only outbound request the app can make is the licence check described above.

Security

Your content never leaves your computer, which removes the largest category of risk entirely. The licence request is made over HTTPS. Files you export are written where you choose, with the permissions your operating system applies.

Your choices

  • Use the app without an account at all. In that state it makes no network request whatsoever, and the Licence & network panel shows you the empty list. (The one-time first-run guide, above, opens in your browser regardless of account — it is a page view your browser makes, and nothing about you is sent.)
  • Disconnect at any time to return to the no-network state. That removes the key from Credential Manager; your codes, archive and brand kits stay.
  • Reset the install ID by deleting the app's local application-data folder. A new, unrelated ID is created only if you sign in again.
  • Clear the reissue archive from inside the app, or delete the application-data folder.
  • Uninstall through Windows Settings; your exported files are yours and are left alone.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
